Lindsay Green Joins R&A Architecture + Design as Studio Director
Broad Range of Skills Enables Green to Manage Diverse Projects and Staff
CULVER CITY, CA: With more than a dozen years of experience as a designer and a project manager, Lindsay Green, Assoc. AIA, EDAC, has been involved in all phases of projects at various scales, ranging from corporate campuses to office interiors and branding assignments. R&A Architecture + Design—a young architecture, interior design, and planning firm based in Culver City, CA—recognizes the value of her varied skills in appointing Green to be a Studio Director of the practice.
“Lindsay brings a broad range of talents to our team,” says principal Christian Robert, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, who co-founded R&A in 2012. “She understands programming, space planning, computer software, firm management, and budgeting, in addition to design. Her expertise will help us with our operations as the firm expands with people and projects.”
After graduating from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) in 2000, Green worked on large interior renovation projects for several leading firms in Los Angeles. Among these designs are the Chait Day Media Arts Lab, Sony Pictures Entertainment Studios, and Amgen’s Building 21 in Thousand Oaks, CA. “Through this work, I learned how to manage large teams of design professionals and grew to enjoy all the phases and processes that are involved in our field,” says Green.
Most recently, she worked for the LA start-up office of an established architecture firm, helping to create tools so that leadership and project managers could better understand firm-wide overhead, financial projections, studio utilization, and staffing.
Green’s interest in design and architecture developed at an early age, during childhood trips with her family to cathedrals in Europe, pyramids in Egypt, and historic buildings in Los Angeles. Those experiences—and a middle-school test that proclaimed her aptitude for architecture—led her to enroll in an architectural drafting class during high school. “Not only did I love the idea of using my imagination to create spaces and designs that did not exist before, but I loved the craft of drafting. I was hooked immediately.”
Through her work on large projects with multi-faceted teams, Green eventually found her calling in management roles. “I am a very practical thinker, and although very creative in my younger years, have found myself in more business-oriented roles,” she says. She never tires of taking a project from programming through to completion (“an amazing process,” adds Green).
According to Green, the architect’s role in society is to be respectful. “I’ve always enjoyed the opportunity to be respectful to the city, the people, and the environment that we are building in,” she stresses. “The profession has processes in place to help minimize the built environment’s impact on the world, so it is our job as professionals (and our client’s job as the procurer) to either help cultivate what is already in place, or help catalyze the location for a better purpose.”
In addition to holding an associate membership with the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Green earned evidence-based design accreditation and certification (EDAC) from the Center for Health Design.
